made from 100% blue weber agave, meticulously grown in the lowland region of Jalisco, Mexico
The Land
The land upon which our agave is grown has been owned, nurtured, and passed down through three generations of a single family of master tequileros.
Our distillery (NOM-1641) is located in Tequila, Mexico, and has exclusive access to nearby agave fields. Carabuena Tequila is the only tequila to be exported to the United States from NOM-1641.
Harvesting
The harvesting process, known as “jima,” is led by the family that owns the farm.
Patience is perhaps the most important ingredient you’ll taste in Carabuena Tequila — our agave is only pulled once it has fully matured, which can take up to 7 years for blue weber agave.
Once harvested, the agave’s leaves are stripped away to reveal the heart of the plant, known as the “piña.” The piña is then slow-cooked in custom clay ovens, called “hornos de mamposteria.”
Cooking & Distillation
After the agave is steamed for 22 hours, then rested for 72 hours, the flavorful juice that remains is transferred into traditional copper alembic stills for distillation, where it is distilled twice.
Through a slow distillation process, we are able to preserve the natural aromas and flavors that come from the fermentation, giving Carabuena our unequaled flavor profile.
Our tequila blanco is filtered and bottled directly after distillation, resulting in a crystal clear tequila that finishes clean.
One of the key elements in the production of our tequilas reposado and añejo are the Tonelero premium wooden barrels in which they age, preserving every bit of flavor during their resting time. Our reposado ages for 7 months, and our añejo for 14 months, giving each their respective color and flavor profiles.
Bottling
Carabuena takes pride in using 100% recycled glass for our hand-blown bottles, which are manufactured in Tonalá, Jalisco.
With more than 20 years in the industry and a deep commitment to efficient environmental practices, our glass craftsmen find their raw materials in recycled glass from the Jalisco area, melting down thousands of pounds of glass every day, which in turn find new life as Carabuena bottles.
Each bottle is made possible through preserved cultural traditions combined with the mastery, talent, and artistic ability of these craftsmen.
Our bottle label artwork features the iconic spirits known as “nahuales” and are designed by Pistachie, a talented artist from Tabasco, Mexico.
