Up next in our Carabuena Sounds playlist series: A special Hispanic Heritage Month edition curated by Nelson Valente Aguilar, chief composer for Austin-based indie-cumbia-pop band Como Las Movies.

Originally from McAllen, Texas, Nelson is known for combining his pan-Latin & contemporary influences into a duality that NPR describes as “a colorful, cultural soundscape” and KCRW says “occupies a space where traditional Tejano, cumbia, and Son Jarocho music meet face to face with synth-heavy new wave inspiration. It’s not a dense space with many inhabitants...in fact, they may be there by themselves.”
